Vestal is a surf brand best known for watches. The word means pure or virgin; or, refers or relates to the Roman goddess, Vesta, the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and domesticity. White’s work often looks at brands that have dual meanings, as well as logos that represent sports––typically considered a more masculine or aggressive domain––by way of words that are associated with women. In Vestal, an inkjet-printed, three-dimensional band wraps around two painted canvases, creating a juxtaposition of the synthetic and handmade, and uses a digital rainbow as a symbol for speed and optimism.
