Drone #9 is the latest work in Björn Schülke’s series of observation machines. Propeller powered, the work continually rotates, while a kinetic arm equipped with a camera reaches outward and retracts. Three mirrors positioned near the camera’s lens constantly spin, changing the perspective of what the camera sees, which is then output to a monitor on the other side of the sculpture. The work conspicuously hangs in midair, despite its heavy, Zeppelin-like form.
