Object of Desire Control Chair

Yael Kanarek
Object of Desire Control Chair, 2007
Wood, Atari joystick, push button, laptop
Dimensions variable
Installation view: Eyebeam, New York City.

In 2007 an exhibition at The Jewish Museum, New York, featured on-site access to Object of Desire in a customized boat-chair featuring a vintage Atari joystick for navigation. A specialized vessel of discovery, this sculpture can stand alone or run live as an interactive installation. Based on an image of a Noah’s Ark toy from the 1895 Montgomery Ward Catalogue and Buyer’s Guide, Object of Desire Control Chair is high enough that when an average person sits in it their legs are suspended off the ground.
