Using methods of public intervention and video installation, Storming Times Square is born from a desire to have viewers project themselves, literally and metaphorically, onto their immediate environments. This public art project is Daniel Canogar’s largest to date in NYC. Arts enthusiasts are invited to contribute work that captures New York’s uniquely vibrant, diverse and expressive culture.

July 24 – 27, 2014: Participants will be invited to crawl over a green-screen surface while being captured by an over-head video camera in Times Square. There will be two filming sessions each day, 9:00 AM until Noon, and 4:00 – 7:00 PM. The filming will take place outdoors in Duffy Square, 46th St at Broadway.

September 1 – 30: The culmination of this video shoot is a multi-channel animation featuring participants climbing up the LED billboards in Times Square. It will screen nightly in September, from 11:57 pm till midnight.

Storming Times Square is part of the “Midnight Moment” program, the largest coordinated effort in Times Square to display synchronized, cutting-edge creative content on electronic billboards throughout Times Square. “Midnight Moment” is organized and supported by the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) in partnership with Times Square Arts, with additional partners of participating sign holders and artists.
