Voting results from Learning Machine #3: Sound are short works of musique concrète-style audio. The mini compositions are based on categorical choices made on the machine, with samples drawn from the BBC Sound Effects Library. This library, often used as a training set for machine learning algorithms involving audio, is considered the gold standard for sound effects in the film industry. Voters choose between categories of noise as posited by Luigi Russolo in the 1913 Futurist manifesto L’arte dei Rumori. The resulting sound then generates a synaesthetic animation on the screen.
