Cannula is a generative animation, the palette of which is YouTube videos. Queries placed on this ubiquitous website generate the source images for the liquid forms visible in the piece. Depending on the subject matter of the queries, the color scheme and rhythm of the abstraction varies. 300 hours of new material are uploaded to YouTube every hour and more than a billion videos are presently available on the site. It would take 60,000 years of uninterrupted viewing to see everything. Humans are unable to cognitively process so much information; Cannula attempts to represent this cognitive overwhelm by turning You Tube videos into abstractions.
